It’s a curious thing to be doing, old friend. ”You steal some of our petrol,” we seem to be saying, ”and we kill a hundred of your people, burn them, roast them, screaming and stumbling, howling for mercy, to death, to agonised death, and we win your hearts and minds that way. Vote for us, we’re Christians, Europeans, humanist democrats, mass murderers. Or vote for our man Karzai.”
