New systems include the linking of exposure and outcome data following 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccination from large health plans and state registries, covering more than 10 percent of the U.S  population or roughly 20 million people, to facilitate safety monitoring of 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine in near real-time. Another project will explore the safety of 2009 H1N1 vaccine in pregnant women through a collaboration of health care providers, academic medical centers, and vaccine researchers to conducts studies of vaccine, influenza antiviral, and natural influenza exposure and maternal and fetal outcomes. In addition, the CDC is working with the  American Academy of Neurology and through additional surveillance sites to identify possible cases of Guillan-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, following vaccination.
