The editorial (‘Realistic about obesity? Fat chance‘, 14/5) muses about “soft compromise” as the reason why there is so little action to set the compass for healthy choices in the supermarket aisles.
One look at the membership of the Preventative Health Taskforce may explain why the Government wimped out of banning junk-food advertising before 9pm. It’s profits. Advertising revenue, political donations and professional sports will combine in the most amoral manner to prevent efforts to curb unhealthy consumption. In the corporate world, more is better.
We could hope that the local media would put the blowtorch on local preventive health experts. Hope, though, has faded to black.
