From Whoa to Go

How to absorb undocumented arrivals into a high-skill society. Increased productivity means more credentialling & regulation, to ensure S & Q of products. That means more education & training and regulated admission to those facilities, from day-care on up. Demands & stresses of getting into and staying in the skilled stream will produce resentments against those who “jump the queue”.

That’s the Oz we are becoming. Why?

Demonisation will become a political necessity. We will more easily identify with Israelis bombarded by Gazan rockets.

Oz dropped the ball with Australia Card. Need separation of IM and citizenship. People will be continually dropping out of the highly regulated “citizen” category, for all sorts of reasons.

Documentation, as in proof of identity, is the key. One can be “un-documented” for buying the milk, and ?how many other activities.
The undocumented can wash up on our shores any time. It’s up to us to define how to deal with them, without any proof of identity or origin. Security checks will rely on photos, fingerprints, ?other biometrics – take weeks to months. If “clean”, issue new (Oz) identity that eliminates all previous linkages, including “family”.

Pre WW1, cross-border traffic handled how? Mostly within settings of Nation (Empire), and the threat of war.
With dismantling of empires, freer trade, open global economy – inevitable that have-nots will aspire to move to where there’s paid work. Indonesians *could* invade Oz, to set up their own agrarian societies in the north, but why would they move away from established systems of subsistence agriculture?
