It seems (to me) both majors are trying to appeal to an enlarging pool of people with disparate interests. In the current (benign & prosperous) economic climate, that pool will grow and make repetitions of 2010 more likely. But, there aren’t many reasons for younger voters to join (old-fashioned) political parties.
Things being as they are – increasingly ideological & intensely partisan – today’s proposal for a referendum on funding of LGAs will add greatly to the electorate’s low opinion of politics. Or, it will be the first step toward a viable multi-party, multi-member electorate model (Denmark, not Italy).
