Business Models for Thinness

(1) China – The Other China Boom is driven by demand for illicit stimulants. Poor people pay for drugs of unknown content.

(2) The Men Who Made Us Thin Weigh-Watchers business model needed payers to fail and keep coming back.

(3) It Costs $5 Billion To Create A New Drug, And That Is Shaping The Future Of Medicine

An effective “fat-buster” would be a blockbuster and gold-mine. The article hints successful drug(s) would take all of several billions each to get to the pharmacy shelf. Then, consumers would know they are paying for the highest quality and “guaranteed” safety. Many contender molecules will be at various points on the train from test-tube to Phase IV trials.  What’s certain is that with so much investor $$$ flowing in, many will be hoping to get at some of that cash, by taking part in the R & D.

Is AOD-9604 one of them? Are the patent-holders banking on receiving some of that $5b? If it is a contender, then how have human recipients been inducted into clinical trials? “Pharmacological experimentation” on humans is valid, and essential, in the context of clinical trials. Big Pharma puts mega$$ into trials, and the processes to assure safety. (Cite TGN1412 & David Oakley) So, they have a big interest in the status quo, and would not look kindly on companies that cut corners (do it cheaper) and give trials a bad name.

It’s in the interests of Pharma, and the local medical research industry, to get involved, behind the scenes, in the AFL doping scandal, by providing access to counsel, expertise & publicity.
