When Jenny Valentish writes (‘The neglected world of comorbid disorders‘, 19/11) “Katelyn is a veteran of 28 hospital and clinic admissions …” a naive reader is led to believe that Katelyn has documentation of those episodes and that the journalist has, at least, seen minimal evidence of that claim. However, the experience of almost everyone who has to move across the boundaries in Australia’s health care “system” is that collation of records is nigh impossible. It’s hard enough for anyone without severe cognitive disorder. Did Jenny Valentish witness those documents? If not, can her “story” of Katelyn be reconciled with the standards of journalism?
