Wise owls reassure voters that good government is returning, to “the Middle”. The middle class of middle income earners is the “right” focus. Roving mikes amplify the chorus “What about me, and my house?”
We are hooting along from the same page as our leaders, though the politics could be shortened to “the Me”. This unrelenting and exclusive concern for ME is the final insult to the long tradition of liberal (and social) democracy. We seem happy to cast the tail of the less fortunate into a basket of “undeserving” and banish them from the charts of our dreams.
Reason may sleep, but not Justice.
